Shiro has ADHD and is hyperfixated on space in this essay i will

bear in mind i haven’t watched any of S7 yet and i’ve only seen rumours, but:

  • Shiro was so obsessed with going into space – and going back to space – that he told a serious chronic illness to go fuck itself so he could keep living the dream
  • his obsession with space was apparently deep and consuming enough to interfere with a serious romantic relationship
  • he apparently taught a teenager how to drive a hoverbike off a cliff, which is hilarious and adorable. also: impulsive as heck
  • his hobby back at the Garrison was a very physical activity (riding hoverbikes) that involved a lot of work with his hands, rather than something more passive
  • his fighting style involves him literally bouncing off the walls
  • but also: his style of fighting involves a lot of creative use of space and the environment, and a lot of improvising. i.e. he has an overactive imagination and is able to process information from the environment fast enough to improvise wildly and creatively
  • used that to defeat Myzax in the arena, i.e. he noticed a critical detail about the way Myzax’s weapon functioned which allowed him to win the fight
  • functions great when the adrenaline kicks in
  • notices lots of little details from his surroundings, i.e. the architecture, the constellations etc.
  • in Ark of Taujeer he did a barrel roll in Black for no reason, apparently out of boredom. i.e. he’s restless and fidgety
  • trouble sleeping – stays up late working because he can’t switch off. gets up early and does push-ups in his room because he can’t sit still
  • got so bored in his prison cell he started timing guard rotations. by tapping his fingers on the walls. i.e. he relies a lot on tactile sensations to remember things
  • the whole thing with Slav? low frustration tolerance
  • but also you notice how his approach to dealing with Slav was to come up with a bunch of extremely creative solutions to the problem? overactive imagination kicking in right there
  • “patience yields focus” sounds like a mantra developed by someone who can’t concentrate for shit
  • thrived in the Galaxy Garrison, an institution with a rigid structure – something that is incredibly useful for people with ADHD who have difficulty structuring their own lives
  • in Eye of the Storm he doesn’t seem to have a good concept of time – everyone else is really tired and he’s like “let’s keep focusing on our mission”. i.e. he was hyper-focused at that point and couldn’t wrap his head around the idea of stopping. and then he sent everyone else away to relax, and he kept working the problem
  • physically incapable of resisting the urge to do lasergun sound effects, complete with melodramatic posing, despite his role as ‘serious leader in charge who shouldn’t be goofing off’
  • can be completely distracted from following correct military protocol by one (1) well-aimed squishy asteroid
  • Lance knows it, too, which is why he threw it in the first place

so in conclusion, Shiro has ADHD and he’s hyperfixated on space thanks for coming to my TED talk

BERRY I LOVE YOU!!!!!!!!

AS A FELLOW ADHD THIS IS 100% APPROVED
