Jayne Mansfield explains how her career began on England’s BBC television in 1960. Though Jayne had an IQ of 163 and could speak five languages and play the piano, violin and viola with aptitude, she was never taken seriously by Hollywood and became typecast in the persona of a busty “dumb blonde”. She once remarked in frustration: “No one cares about 163.
They’re more interested in 40–21–35.”

The passive agressive snark in this is fantastic

Male executives used femininity and sexuality to try and hide her intelligence and aptitude. If you don’t prettify yourself and genuflect to the patriarchy with your appearance then they will do it for you!

this really show how threatened men are by women as well as how they literally view femininity (and women) as weak and less-than.

It’s depressing how many intelligent, generous, kind, accomplished women get remembered for nothing but their looks. Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe, Jayne Mansfield…

I’m going to add Doris Day & Hedy Lamarr.

Doris Day was a FIERCE animal rights champion, among other things. But one flippant remark forever labeled her as “the last virgin in America”.

Hedy Lamar was, of course, a brilliant scientist and mathematician who had to publish papers under her husband’s name. Without her, we wouldn’t have wifi.
